Rust & Salt Studies
Salt, rust, and vinegar
2015
As the use of the railroad diminished in the US, small watering holes that had popped up along the railroad deteriorated leaving behind only large mounds of rusted objects. Walking along the tracks behind the studio in Wyoming I came across these mounds and sought to use the rusted material to create prints. I experimented with different objects (railroad spikes, cans, pins) and substances (vinegar, salt, water) to figure out how to best transfer the rust of a 3D object onto paper.
