White Dunes
Installation
2016
White Dunes is an installation evoking the effects that wind can have on sand dunes, particularly creating pattern that continuously gets erased and remade by the wind itself. While standing on the Killpecker Sand Dunes in Wyoming, I was transfixed by the wind shifting and warping the sand into configurations.
The cast shadows of interlocked cardboard pieces create a dune-like landscape on the wall that then interacts with the projected image. Further interaction between the projection and the actual cardboard sculptures create a more complex pattern that gets made and erased continuously. The viewer’s cast shadow when approaching the sculptures becomes part of the installation and creates a further surreal landscape.
